Armenia is where I live and where this journal begins. It is a small mountain country in the South Caucasus, and for centuries it stood on the trade roads between East and West. You can still feel that in its monasteries, its markets and its table.

I write about four regions I know first-hand:

Yerevan: the capital, built of pink stone, with its opera house, the Cascade and the markets.

Lori: my home region in the north. The Debed canyon, the UNESCO-listed monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, the city of Vanadzor and Molokan villages like Fioletovo.

Shirak: Gyumri, Armenia’s second city, with its black and red stone houses and its old craft traditions.

Tavush: forests, the town of Dilijan and the monasteries of Haghartsin and Goshavank.

Every guide here is based on my own trips, and every photograph is mine.
